MOU Signed Between Tipco Asphalt and KMITL to Foster Sustainable Road Construction in Thailand

On January 15, 2025, Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited, led by Mr. Soranat Nantamontri (Deputy Managing Director – Thailand Business Unit) and Mr. Surapol Ketkaew (Technical Director), joined hands with the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, represented by Associate Professor Dr. Somyot Kiattiwanichwilai (Dean of the Faculty of Engineering) and Professor Dr. Uma Sibunruang (Head of the Department of Civil Engineering), to sign an academic cooperation agreement at the Engineering Innovation Development and Technology Service Center (EIDTs).

The collaboration aims to foster academic cooperation and facilitate various research studies to benefit both parties. Initiatives under this partnership include guest lectures by company experts for the university, support for construction site visits and laboratory testing, internships, and research projects for students focusing on developing construction systems and asphalt concrete products. These efforts seek to sustainably elevate excellence in academics, technology, industry, and the country’s road network.

On January 8, 2025, a group of 11 fourth-year medical students from the Faculty of Medicine, Naresuan University, Clinical Medical Education Center, Phitsanulok Hospital, along with 5 instructors, participated in a field study on “Practical Learning in Occupational Health and Safety of Workers at Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited, Phitsanulok Plant.” This activity is part of the Community Medicine and Occupational Health course.

The objective was to explore potential hazards and assess risks, as well as propose improvement measures for the Phitsanulok factory to enhance the effectiveness of the factory’s occupational health practices.

On December 20, 2024, Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited, Phitsanulok Plant, was honored with the national “Disease-Free, Safe Workplace, Healthy Body and Mind Award 2024” (Gold Level) from Ministry of Public Health. The award was presented by Dr. Direk Khumpan, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health.

This award highlights the company’s commitment to adhering to sustainable development policies, focusing on enhancing the overall quality of life for its employees. This includes promoting physical and mental well-being, as well as preventing various risk factors such as workplace accidents, chemical hazards, and machinery-related incidents. The company is dedicated to creating a safe working environment and fostering sustainable happiness in the workplace.

In 2024, a total of 109 establishments received awards, divided as follows:

In 2024, 228 listed companies met the criteria and were recognized for their sustainable practices under the SET ESG Ratings. The ratings comprise: AAA: 56 companies, AA: 80 companies, A: 71 companies, and BBB: 21 companies

On December 16, 2024, Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited, Phitsanulok Plant, organized its annual Open House event under the theme “Tipco Asphalt Go Green.” The objective of this event was to communicate the company’s business operations, measures to prevent and reduce the impact of its activities, and the social initiatives undertaken throughout the past year. It also aimed to exchange information and gather feedback from stakeholders. During this event, the company was honored to have the Director of the Community Industry Promotion Development Group from the Second Industrial Promotion Center and the Mayor of Bang Rakam New Town Municipality participate in a discussion on the topic “Roles and Participation in Combating Global Warming.” This discussion allowed participants to see the tangible efforts and commitments from various sectors in addressing the issue of global warming.

The event was attended by 59 external guests, government agencies, and community representatives, along with 33 employees.

The Department of Highways (DOH), in collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, organized the “Highway Asset Management, Batch 1” from November 11 to 29, 2024. The training sessions were held at the Terdsak Sedthamanop Seminar Room, 3rd Floor of the Training Division Building, Department of Highways.

This event featured distinguished speakers including Mr. Surapon Katekaew, Director – Technical and Mr. Christophe Duboscq, Senior Manager-Research and Development Center of Tipco Asphalt Public Company Limited. They delivered a lecture on “Sustainable Asphalt Practices and Materials” to enhance the participants’ knowledge. The key content covered:

  1. Sustainable Materials Usage: Incorporating Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP) and other recyclable materials to minimize environmental impact and improve durability.
  2. Roles of Cool Roads and Reflective Asphalt Surfaces: These innovations reduce heat absorption, mitigate urban heat island effects, and enhance road structure durability.

The seminar welcomed 22 engineers from nine nations, including ASEAN and BIMSTEC member countries. It was a pivotal opportunity for knowledge exchange and experience sharing to achieve sustainable and efficient highway asset management.  This training course was part of an international collaboration aimed at promoting sustainable highway asset management through the dissemination and transfer of expertise from relevant specialists. The initiative is expected to contribute significantly to developing sustainable infrastructure and transportation systems in the future.
